Bella and Edward in Utah

OK, maybe not all together, LOL!

Wednesday morning Joseph, Aiden and Michael set out on our trip up to Utah.  We got on our first flight without too much stress (heaven bless whoever invented a good double stroller), and we sat down to get settled on our first flight (that’s right, we had a layover) As soon as I was settled a Man came down the isle with a little girl and a wife with a baby girl.  As soon as they sat down the woman started hyperventilating and stressing about a flight with two kids…  Um yeah lady, I had to bite my tongue to not tell her to find 4 more kids, or add a kid and loose the husband, and then complain…  Soon after we took off the husband asked me why I’d fly alone with three kids, I explained that we were moving, and my husband was doing most of the packing and driving up the U-haul, and I was taking care of the kids.  He asked where I was moving, and I replied Salt Lake, and he practically yelled “Why?”  I audibly gasped, how rude can a person be?  LOL!  I laughed, “Family!”  He then proceeded to tell me that he’d lived in Utah once upon a time, so he could say that…  Whatever, LOL! Some people are just bizarre.

Towards the end of that first flight Aiden started having a rough time, and wouldn’t keep on his safety belt as the plane was landing so that became quite a struggle.  Michael was bumping the seat in front of him a little, so the lady in front of him called the flight attendant, and had her tell him to stop…  Or rather me…  Sorry lady, there’s only so much I can do…  So by this point I had three grumpy kids, I’d been charged for each of my checked bags, and I’d opted out of drinks on the flight, because they wanted $2 a pop…  Um no, but by the end of the flight there was an “I’m thirsty!” chorus from our row…  I was VERY strongly thinking I’ll never fly U.S. Airways again.

That flight ends and we’re off boarding and as we’re trying to get the stroller set up (of course they stood there and watched me juggle 5 bags and three boys instead of opening it for me) Aiden ran off down the terminal…  So I grabbed the stroller with my 2 free fingers and lunged after him…  I caught up with him, but probably not before frightening a couple people as I swung around a stroller with locked wheels.

I deplaned in Phoenix at gate A4 and had about 1 hour 20 minutes before our next plane took off.  I looked at my ticket and the computer screens, and our next flight took off from A29.  So I booked it over there, got everyone through the potty and fresh diapers and pull-ups, then we got some food and water bottles and started waiting at A29 for our flight.  Nobody was at the desk, but I waited because I needed to get the check tag for the stroller…  I looked up and their sign said “Boise” as in Idaho!  Ugh!  So I waited for another minute FREAKING out inside, thinking the attendant would be able to tell me if I was waiting for the next flight, or if they’d changed gates on me…  After a minute, I decided to check my tickets again, GATE  A29…  OK…  I decided to check the monitors once again, and A2.  BACK WHERE I’d begun, nobody had bothered to say anything, AND I had to get back there FAST! So I booked it, Michael dragging along behind me the WHOLE way whining about his feet.   All along the way being badgered to stop and sign up for their miles program, feeling a bit like they were the cell people in a mall or something…  Yech!  What a cheap airline!    Once again, heaven bless whomever invented the double stroller.  I don’t know if I could have gotten through Wednesday without it.

We made it back alright, and were able to be the first ones down to the plane.  As we got there the flight attendant invited the boys to peak into the cockpit!  COOL!  So they opened the door and they looked, and THEN the pilots invite us in, and had Aiden sit in the right side pilot seat!  Neato!  Then to top it off they adjusted the seat and threw the pilots hat on Aiden!  Yes, I got pictures (thanks to the suggestion of the pilot, I was a little too shell shocked to think about it on my own) and we got some pictures as a flight attendant held Joey and greeted people!  It was fantastical!  My impression of U.S. Airways was immediately MUCH better!   I couldn’t believe the kindness of that flights crew, though I probably won’t be flying and time soon, and probably, hopefully at least a decade before I fly with kids again…

On that flight there was a sweet older woman who was so fun to be near!  I hope I can be like that someday!  That flight was about an hour, and we actually arrived in SLC about 20 minutes early.  I kept the snacks coming and the boys did pretty well.  Yay!  Before we knew it were were at Grandma’s decompressing!  The last two days have gone So FAST!  Yesterday for our first trip out of the house, we went to the DI!  LOL!   I spent $40 on clothes, now nobody should go cold!  LOL!

I’m still in shock constantly and expecting to go back to Texas, I don’t think it can even really start to sink in until Kevin is here, and I know I no longer have anything in Texas.

Lastnight, my brother Ryan and I went to the midnight showing of Twilight!  Here in Utah!  Not gonna spoil it for anyone, but I had a great time!!!   I was a bit concerned about the soundtrack, because of what I’d heard so far was  feeling a bit over dramatic, but I REALLY enjoyed it. 🙂

Lastly Kevin’s having a rough time with his Crohns. It’s worse than it’s been in years, which may hint that it’s coming out of remission again…  I think at the moment the plan is that the EQ will come over tonight and help load the moving van, and they’ll take off on their drive not long afterwards.  Poor Nate is helping, they’ve got to both be pretty overwhelmed.  So please pray for a safe trip for them, that Kevin’s OK and that he can relax internally and be able to get done what he needs to without casing his body too much harm.

HEY! I am so glad your here! sorry your trip sucked, but now your in utah with family forEVER and we can help you out with the boys more. Especially little joey! Maybe you will actually be able to meet some neighbor girls that live around you that can help you babysit so you can get some alone time, or time with Kevin. Well, we are praying for Kevin. That is horrible about his crohns. I hope everything will go smooth for them. do you think it is flaring up because he is stressed about moving out and driving all this way!?!? well, I hope all goes well!
    love you guys! Welcome home!!!

I’m glad the second flight was better. I can’t imagine me taking all three by myself. Luckily I don’t think I will have to. We are close enough to drive now.

  • Whew! Makes me tired to just read it! I’ve flown alone with kids before, and it either goes really well (like your second flight), or really really badly. Don’t you love the grimaces when you walk onto the plane with your arms full? Gah.

I’m glad you’re here! We’ll have to get together some time.

  • I was so excited to see you today!! I looked like crap, and almost didn’t say anything because of that, but I had to!!! You are such a sweetie!!! So is your mom. And Aiden? What a doll! We should definitely get together one day. I am down in American Fork about once a week, and I have free zoo & childrens museum passes if you ever want to come up to SLC. Anyways, I hope your day is going smoother, and I hope Kevin is okay!!
