We Went to IKEA Today

Warning: VERY long post. If you wish, just scroll through the pics. 😀

Yeah, it’s a favorite spot. We walked up just as they pulled breakfast off the bar, so we got lunch. Then I dropped Mike off at Smaland. No sooner had I dropped him off and walked upstairs and just started getting going did they page me back… Ugh! Kevin and I gave each other one of those glances, all parents know those glances, and I headed back to get him irritated that in less than 10 minutes he’d managed to get me paged back. As I was heading down the stairs another Mom said, “It’s a false alarm, they’re all going off, you’ll just get a new one.” Whohoo! Mike was hopefully NOT in trouble. Sure enough I got down there and there was a line of parents being handed reset pagers. Michael was happily sitting at the table filling pages with art. I got mine and went up again browsing the store with Kevin, Aiden (who can’t go to small land yet because he’s not fully potty trained and out of pull-ups) and Joey.

We came to my favorite kitchen there. I dream of having a kitchen just like this someday, minus the stainless. A summer at McD’s with stainless stuff turned me off to stainless…
I’ll take standard white or almond enamel appliances thanks… Anyways I LOVE this kitchen all the way down to the sitting room. When we were there last time I think they had a more elegant/shabby chic style curtains up, which I like WAY more, but this is pretty much a kitchen that I love… Colors, floor plan, glass upper cabinets, bench on one side of the table, butcher block counters (or I’ll take Corian), the country style sink, etc… I’d change the curtains to something more cottage like, the flooring to wood or bamboo, and maybe a cooler wall color like lilac or sea foam, nix the bamboo reeds for a ficus or something, and have my own accessories, and of course minus all of the IKEA tags 😛 , but I really like it, I could stay there all day. I know I’m silly to be so excited about a model, but it’s just so pretty, and well, my taste… It really isn’t that big considering that you have a dinner table, an entire kitchen, and a family room all in one area.

Joe started fussing so I pulled out the handy dandy wrap. Yay! I LOVE it. One nice woman watched me put it on and mentioned that “we” (I assume her family because she was grandma age) just had twins and needed all the help they could get and asked all about it, another woman kept saying to her friend “There’s a baby in there!” and cooed at him as we passed, and several other happy stares. Wow! I’m still going to need to wear it a few more times before I’ve really got it down, but it’s my favorite carrier ever, and I’ll be looking for some more fabric to make one or two more I’m sure. It’s just one long piece if fabric, 15’x22,” so a 5 yard piece of fabric cut in half length wise (so I have two, any local’s want one?). SO easy and comfy. You can find instructions on the “Wear Your Baby” site (in my sidebar) under “Make a Carrier,” and how to use under “By Type of Carrier” and then “Wraps,” or just click my links.

No, he’s not nursing, he’s just got ahold of my shirt and is sucking his thumb.

You can see the way that my hair curls with this hair cut. This is nothing but a little gel and letting it air dry, no touching a curling iron…

Kevin had a blast taking all sorts of fun pictures, these are all his. He’s really trying to capture texture right now and working on the focus. I’m really liking what I see from him.

Little bright eyes.

*Sparkle*

About half an hour after I’d dropped off Mike, the pager hadn’t gone off, but I heard my name on the PA being called to Smaland… OK… I headed back, worried that this time some bad behavior had happened, but nope, he’d fallen, banged his head and nose and gotten a bloody nose. 🙁 You can see the small remnants of this by the two small marks on his nose and the slight texture to his forehead above his right eyebrow in this picture I took after getting home.

We finished our “shopping” and Aiden started copping a real rotten attitude. Kevin and I had just about had it. Kevin was rocking Joey cause he wanted to be held (he’s not a big fan of the stroller bassinet unless he’s asleep), and Michael needed to go to the bathroom, so Kevin took him. Aiden thought this was the perfect opportunity to go for a run, he was out of his stroller to sit with Michael at the kiddy table at the cafe. Grr. I ran after him, slipped on the slippery floor as he pulled one of those “I’m going this way, just kidding, heading for a touchdown!” moves, and fell flat on my right hip, I was so stunned that I didn’t realize that a worried lady next to me was speaking in Chinese for a minute or two I just thought something was wrong with my head and I couldn’t understand English. A kind couple caught Aiden as I got up, and I got him back into his stroller. I really jarred my back, shoulder and neck, it’s still hurting and I’m fighting a migraine because of the fall. 🙁 I’m just glad I wasn’t holding Joey.

Once again, we managed to get out of there without buying anything other than at the restaurants. Yay! 😀 Hahaha! Like we need more clutter…

We drove towards home but a couple block before home we decided to take a detour to go to a fun little store. It’d been a few hours since Joey had last eaten, so Kevin strapped Aiden’s “Monkey Hug” on him, and headed in with the big boys, before I even finished with Joey they were back and Aiden was having the tantrum of the century. What’s with this boy? A couple blocks from home Aiden was kicking the back of Kevin’s seat and screaming. Kevin’s patiences was almost gone, so we stopped and I got Aiden, put the Monkey on his back 😛 and we, along with Michael, walked home. He needed some exercise.

And of course, when I took Michael outside to get a pic of his owwies, Aiden tried on my shoes and posed for the camera. Little pill. 🙂

Yup, I took, and posted a blurry pic. 😛

So now we’re just spring cleaning, and hoping to have a good rest of the weekend.

  • Your sons are gorgeous…a nice combo of both of you! I remember “those” days shopping. We went to the Zoo last summer with granddaughters….when Kaylynn ran, I’d say”Marc, go get your daughter!” I love being a grandma…hehehehe
