What happens when…?

You finally feel like you can sit down and breath? Everything blows up.

I lay down on the couch to nurse Joey at about 11:30 this morning, Aiden was playing happily with a few mega blocks next to the entertainment center, and Michael was entertaining himself back in their room. Joey had finished and nodded off to dreamland, and I was just getting ready to carefully move him to the swing and take a break, make lunch, and clean the living room. Michael (in true Steele boy fashion) came running out of the bedroom. As he passed between Aiden and the entertainment center, he tripped/yanked/something on the cord for the game cube controller still attached to the Wii from last nights games… The Wii came crashing down on Aiden’s head. Ouch! It gashed his Cheek/eye area. 🙁

I jumped up, shoved Joey to the back of the couch (he rolls front to back but not the other way yet), grabbed Aiden and put gentle pressure on the wound as I asked Michael who was saying over and over, “I didn’t mean to! I didn’t mean to!” To get a paper towel. He spaced out and Aiden didn’t want to cuddle with me, so we ran to the bathroom and I had Michael stay with Joey as I called Kevin to have him find a ride home or to the ER to meet us ASAP. I got off the phone, started looking for either my phone that has their doc’s number in it, or the card that was in my wallet with their number. I found the card and after thinking for a second, it wasn’t bleeding that much, so I called Kevin back and told him that I’d pick him up after I called the doctor for directions on what she thought I should do.

I called the doc and after the nurse heard my story she said she’d tell the doc and be back, I was surprised, but the doc got back on the line! I LOVE our pediatrician! She gave me the choice of what we should do. They were just going on lunch, so I asked her when lunch would be over and she said, “Just bring him in, I’ll watch for you.”

Shameless plug for my doctors~ Seriously, any locals I HIGHLY recommend my doctors, call me if you want their names, they’re a partnership of mothers with little ones, and they each work half the week including Saturdays, so there’s always someone reachable, but they get to balance family with their careers! They’re so sweet with the little guys and so personable! They’re my favorite pediatricians I’ve ever had, and they’re great with the boys.

We picked up Kevin and headed over there, and sure enough they got us right in, looked him over, cleaned him up, and then gave Kevin and I the choice to a) leave it alone, but it’ll probably have a bigger scar, b) tape it and hope he doesn’t yank it off, or c) take him to the ER and have them glue it (they don’t have the derma bond in the office).

We decided on the tape. It lasted oh about 6 hours before his seat belt pulled it off. 🙁 She did give me the extra tape though to tape it back up if it fell of or he yanked it off. So I’ll do that right as I put him to bed so it doesn’t attract little fingers. We took Kevin back to work, and he only ended up using his lunch hour for our little adventure…

I’m now SO glad I got a picture of them on Sunday in their Easter outfits, I would have been so sad!
