Around 10:45 AM~ My brother Nathan and 3 of his friends are hiking on Kings Peak and there’s a bad storm, we just got word that they’re in trouble, he’s an excellent camper and hiker, but we’ve received word that they did a… GPS 911, but the storm is so bad that they don’t think that they can get in. Please PRAY that they can be rescued, that the storm will dissipate, that none has life threatening injuries, and that they’ll all come home! We have no information other than that they’re in trouble, they used a GPS 911, which means no-one talked to anyone.
I feel like the more prayers the better, all we can do is pray, and we’re so scared. Also please pray for my mother, she’s got extreamly high blood pressure, and was already beyond a healthy stress level given other circumstances in our lives right now.
Edited with an update 11:15 AM~ They’ve managed to send a helicopter in. We checked weather radar, it looks like it’s currently not raining there, and that it is less than 30 degrees.
Update 11:50 AM~ news~ I just tried to call him on the cell, and HE ANSWERED! Everyone’s OK that’s with them, one of their friends took a different trail and never showed back up and is lost. They’re asking for a fast to help find him and that he’s OK, so anyone wanting to participate, please do. Thanks!
1:30~ OK more information as everyone compares notes. Lastnight at 4 on the way down from Kings Peak, the highest peak in Utah, in the Uinta Mountains, one of the friends decided to explore a different trail. They tried and tried to convince him otherwise, but for whatever reasons he wouldn’t be swayed. They used their SPOT beacon at around 10 this morning when he’d never shown at their camp. The hiker that’s still missing is in his early 20’s from Utah Valley and is a RM, they’ve all been going on hiking trips for months in preparation for this trip. they have everything a good hiker needs, water purifiers, super good sleeping gear, all the best stuff. Don’t know if the one who was lost has that stuff with him though, would think he would. We’re still waiting to hear news.
2:30~ They found him he’s OK, and they’re on their way home! We’re SO glad and grateful!
Glad everyone is safe. Jenni makes me carry my SPOT GPS with me on all my adventures. It sure can help out.
That is scary! I’m glad that they found the other friend. Will uses a SPOT gps unit like that and it is the only reason why I let him do some of the things that he does. it gives me peace of mind.
Those SPOT things are really cool! I think I’ll get one when my kids are into that stuff and their really big scout hikes and whatnot. Me, I can’t fathom going to far from road access, but that’s me. 🙂
