Or not, LOL!
OK, this is the other half of the chocolate and music gift. I didn’t send the Chocolate Mix Skittles in case she didn’t like them, she is pregnant, so you never know. 😉 She got a box of Choxie Truffles instead.
These are all songs that mean a lot to me. I mostly put them in chronological order of when they became special to me, some are where they are just cause that’s where they fit best in my life.
1. Lullaby~ Billy Joel
This song has always been special to me, my Dad used to be a big Billy Joel fan, and when he bought the CD I fell in love with this song. I think it’s even better from a parent’s perspective.
2. Day-O (Banana boat song)~ The Hit Crew (not the original artists)
When we went to Surfside this was one of the songs that was playing in the car on the ride down, Afton gave it to Kevin on a CD and we didn’t open it until the trip and it was just perfect for the trip, Kevin and I were singing it for days after returning home, I also remember loving this song and dancing to it as a kid.
3. Upside Down~ Jack Johnson~ from Curious George the Movie
I LOVE Curious George. But this is a good feel good song for me.
4. Valentine~ Martina McBride
One of the first country songs I was OK with. I remember sitting on the bus going to school with a cousin and singing along with on the radio and my cousin Julie saying “I thought you didn’t do country,” It kinda changed my perspective.
5. Right Here Waiting~ Richard Marx
I figured out how to play this on the piano at about 12 when I was beginning to grasp onto the whole romantic notion in more than just fairy tales. This also meant a lot to me later when my first sweetheart and I moved away from each other. Reality later hit and it just wasn’t right, but I will always love this song on a very deep level. Plus now I can think of my sweet hubby and what we have and will do for each other in this life.
6. Time To Say Goodbye~ Sarah Brightman snd Andrea Bocelli
We went to Las Vegas on a little trip when I was about 17 as a family. We went the weekend before Valentines day and they were getting all ready for love week. As a single love sick teenager I just loved the place, I dreamed about coming back with my someday hubby, and enjoying the ambiance there. We were walking along the strip exploring one evening at sunset, we happened to be at the Bellagio fountains in front of the Bellagio and they played this song with a whole water show with fountains and lights, to say it was beautiful, incredible, sensational, wonderful and romantic would be a huge understatement. It was a whole body experience between the music, the lights the water with light mist blowing onto my skin, it was a defining moment for me. I still haven’t been back to Vegas, let alone with Kevin. Someday.
7. I Hope You Dance~ Lee Ann Womack
I loved this music video. Just about hope for others, to dance, to try…
8. Cowboy Take Me Away~ Dixie Chicks
This just brings my back to my roots every time. Makes me want to live on a little ranch out in the middle of nowhere and just enjoy that life. I heard this song in the car today, and there’s a line “I wanna look at the horizon, and not see a building standing tall.” And that’s the farthest thing from where I’m at, but that’s OK for now, bust someday, I really do want to be able to look at the horizon, and not see a building standing tall, every single day. Just me and my Kev, well and our families, and friends, I don’t want to be a recluse, but I look forwards to the days when it’s just us.
9. Kiss The Rain~ Billie Myers
From Chasing Amy, thought I can’t say I remember watching it, it’s been years. I’m a girlie girl, so I’m a sucker for romantic stuff, and this guy spilling his emotions to this girl who he’s in love with, risking his friendship with her at all costs in hopes of “getting the girl,” just gets me.
10. Wrapped Up In You~ Garth Brooks
Oh, good ol’ Garth. I was thrilled when this song came out, fresh crisp, and totally romantic, LOVE it!
11. All I Ask Of You~ Phantom of the Opera
Girls’ll know why. 😉
12. Only Hope~ Mandy Moore (from A Walk To Remember)
LOVE Walk to Remember, love Mandy, like the tune, nice song.
13. My Best Friend~ Tim McGraw
Wanted this to be out wedding song. Well accept for the “when we make love” part (since we were virgins until our wedding night) and the “never had no-one I could count on” we both have very supportive families, but the general feel of the song just hit home for me. Kevin’s been my best friend almost as long as I’ve known him.
14. I Never Was The Same Again~ Jeff Carson
First verse, boy and his dog, dog dies, he grows up; second verse, same kid finished high school and finds love of his life, grows up; third verse, they’re married and having their first baby, watches his wife give birth, man grows up.
This song came out shortly before I got pregnant with Michael. Kevin hated when it came on the radio. I LOVED it, but it always made me cry. Some part of me knew it was time to start our family, but part of me, and all of Kevin, felt like maybe it was just wanting to take the next big step after getting married. It made me sob every time it came on. Once we got pregnant it still made me cry, and still does, even though I’ve done the whole giving birth thing three times it doens’t get any less exciting.
15. Proud to Be an American~ Lee Greenwood
I remember hearing this song at a 4th of July fireworks show as a kid at USU stadium. It was one of the first songs ever to move me to tears, and planted some of the seeds of patriotism in me.
I put it here in the line-up because I found out I was pregnant with Michael on September 4th 2001, 7 days before our country changed forever that tragic morning. It was devistating to see those buildings crumble, but the biggest reason it moved me was because I knew things would be different for my child and children.
I’m so grateful for this country. Not just USA 2008, but since it’s founding, since the first pilgrims came, since much before that. This truly is and always has been a blessed land, and I’m grateful to be here.
16. Sweet Baby James~ James Taylor
I’ve always known this song, but it became special when our little Michael was born, Kevin started singing it to him as a lullaby, and Michael loved it. He continued the tradition with all of our boys. When the boys hear this song from the CD player they say “Hey! That’s Daddy’s song, but that’s not Daddy.”
17. Somewhere Over The Rainbow~ Israel Kamakawiwo’ole
This song has brightened life for me through many bouts of depression. I LOVE this version
18. Five O’clock 500~ Alabama
This song just makes me smile. Spending hours, sometimes daily, in traffic it just makes sense to me. For those not familiar with the song, it compares the race home to a professional race car drive. 🙂
19. Escapre (The Pinia Colada Song)~ The Hit Crew (not the original artists)
Reminds me that it’s important to try and stay in love and keep getting to know one another.
20. Something That We Do~ Clint Black
I didn’t think much of this song when I first heard it, but it meant a lot to Kevin. We were still just friends (during the very short period we were “just friends”), he then showed me the words, and I understood why it meant so much to him. Its’ about how love, marriage, is not something that just happens and stays, it’s something that you have to do. We’ve listened to it through hard times and good, and it just means a lot to us. I’ve mentioned it and quoted the lyrics here before.
I tried to add Extraordinary by Mandy Moore, and Suddenly I See by KT Tunstall, but apparently there’s more to this CD burning thing than I knew…
21. Extraordinary~ Mandy Moore
Just about trying to be better, trying to be extraordinary.
22. Suddenly I See~ KT Tunstall
I just chose this cause it makes me feel good and wanna dance! 🙂
Oh, and I’m not sure if Nibblers Birthday got on there or not, LOL!
23~ Nibblers Birthday~ Futurama
Futurama is silly Simpsons like cartoon Kevin is obsessed with. It’s based 1000 years in the future, and by then “Happy Birthday” has so many copywrite labels on it that they jsut sing this version instead, it’s a funny little song.
“What day is today?
It’s Nibbler’s Birthday,
What a day for a Birthday,
let’s all have some Cake!”
and then the clueless main character sings “and you smell like one too! Eheh!”
We just like to joke about it at birthdays…
I really like that version of Over the Rainbow too. Very sweet.
