Still NOT HOME!

So, I guess I need to update again.  The roof was finished beautifully on Friday after a weeks worth of weather delays.  Each day last week was supposedly going to be the day we’d finish and get to close.  It’s very nice and clean, and it was a VERY good thing it was taken care of before we close.  It was in pretty bad shape, and instead of replacing 1/8 of the roof boards from dry rot, it was closer to 1/2!!  Now they’ve put in vents, which was likely a big part of the rot because of lack of ventilation.  According to our inspection and appraisal, most of the rest of the projects are regular maintenance things, so welcome to home ownership for Kevin and I, project city!

An hour before we should have gone to the title company to close, my loan officer called them to schedule our closing.  Remember this was LAST Friday, already 26 days past the day we should have closed.  The title company only THEN disclosed that there’s a property line dispute, and that they won’t close until it’s resolved.  NOBODY knew about this, not the seller, not either of our agents, nobody.  Our house has been sold three times over the last 15 years or so, and NEVER before has this problem been noticed.  My house is older than the surrounding properties, and the other properties were supposedly established when they put in the subdivision surrounding us.  So at first they were approaching things like our original lines should be ours, since the lines were established first.  Then after chatting with my new neighbor I found out that the whole neighborhood was their families to begin with, they just built their house later, but the neighbor house one over is where the husband grew up.  Back when our house was built the fence was put up just to protect against the creek between our homes, and not ON the true property line, but this was never addressed in THREE sellings of the home.  We’re doing everything we can to settle, but bureaucracy runs slower than tar.

I’m just grateful that I have some really nice landlords (thanks Mom and Dad!) and that we’re not living in a hotel until we close.

I had a dream a couple nights ago that we were being held hostage by Michael Scott.  We have a whole bunch of Michael Scotts holding us hostage here in real life.  It will be good to finally have everything all settled properly, but WHY couldn’t we have settled this all in January, or February?????

If anyone wants to help us move, it looks like we’ll be actually moving April 10th.  Thanks!

  • I hate banks and title companies. I feel for you. In regards to your dream I think that would be awful torture. Watching other people being subjected to Micheal Scott is funny but it happening to yourself would not be funny.

  • Oh boy! It’s never ending isn’t it? I’m sorry! That just stinks. Be glad though that these issues are being addressed before you close, because it wouldn’t be fun to deal with after everything is said and done. 🙂 Good luck with the move! I’m sure you will be so glad when everything is said and done and you can move onto home ownership! 😀
