We had Michael’s birthday party today. We only invited the kids from his primary class and their families which turned out to be just right. He insisted on a cowboy theme, so that’s what we went with. We ended up having six Mama’s, just our Dad, and about sixteen kids including our three.
Here’s a picture of Aiden before the party, longingly looking at the cake, the funny thing is I have one very similar of Michael doing the same with Aiden’s 2nd Birthday cake.
We had hot dogs, potato salad, macaroni salad, chips, and baked beans. I planned on cutting up fruit but never got to it. Haha!
Then we went outside and took a shot at the cowboy hat pinata. Michael has been talking forever about doing a pinata with chocolate. So we had butter mints, salt water toffee, dumdums, and a bunch of bite size candy bars. We had the babies start hitting first, and it was broken by half way through, but the candy didn’t come out, so Jean, one of the Moms, picked it up put it over her head like she was wearing it and tossed the candy out, it was pretty fun. We didn’t end up doing any other games (I hadn’t really planned for any), but I think this turned out to be enough.
We then opened gifts, Michael’s friends (or rather their parents) were very generous and got some great gifts for Michael, I’m sure he’ll be busy for days to come.
I made the cake this morning, I added Jelly Bellys to my trial run as more “rocks” as well as the Chocolate Mix Skittles, and did all chocolate cake with whipped chocolate icing this time, I think it turned out pretty well, people said it was good. There were a few too many coffee flavored jelly beans, whoops! I thought I took them all out, but nobody said anything.
The party went so smoothly! These sisters just picked up whenever it got to busy and took care of the kids and serving everyone. It was so easy going! I’ve never hosted a party that was as simple. I love my ward!
The only thing that didn’t go as expected was no Dad’s showed up. I thought they would, I even got a comment about how cool Kevin was to stick around, hahaha! I love my hubby. I’m so glad he stayed though cause I got to visit while he took care of a lot of the details.
It looks like a fabulous party. It was fun to see people I recognize! I’m glad it went well. The cake turned out great. Great job. Happy birthday Michael!
That looks like it was so much fun! The cake looks awesome. And that was so smart to invite the families as well. I need to remember that when Callie starts having friend parties in the future.
We had a great time! The cowboy cake was awesome. I didn’t even notice the coffee jelly beans. 🙂
