Be Prepared

We’re supposed to start getting bad weather about 11 AM our time, so the countdown is on.

OK, people have been asking, so I’m going to detail what we’ve got stored, and what we’re up to.

I’ve got a pantry full of food, at least 70 cans of food, 10# of meat in my freezer (which will be getting grilled), plenty of veggies in the freezer 4 cases of bottled water, and we’ll have a few more gallons stores of drinking water, and two tubs full for flushing and washing up by tonight, two giant bags of charcoal, two normal size ones, a bag of mesquite chips, a grill, a long burning log, three chaffing dish warmers (or whatever those little can cooking things are), matches, several lighters (the long kind for candles and grills) at least 40 big candles, and at least 150 tea lights, and a 100 hour alcohol candle light. We have chips, crackers, cookies, and candy for snacking.  We’re more indulging than going without.  We have at least 3 weeks of pull ups (hopefully he’ll be potty trained by our Utah trip though, Grandma wants to go to Chucky Cheese!) and 2 weeks of diapers, and a case and a half of wipes.

I just finished charging my new DSLR camera’s main battery, and the other two are charged and fresh, the two batteries for the old DSLR are ready as well.  I’ll run out of memory to take pictures before I run out of battery power.  I have every other kind of battery all ready to go.  At least 7 flashlights, and a mini lantern, all with batteries.

We have a full tank of gas, thanks to Kevin making a morning run, lastnight on the way home from our stake temple recommend interviews all the stations were out of gas, so that’s a relief, we were down to about 2/3 a tank.  We don’t plan on going anywhere till after the storm.

We’re on the second floor, and ever with the major flooding from Allison 7 years ago our parking lot wasn’t even touched. So the biggest threat is storm damage, and not so much afterward accept maybe being stuck at home.

We have games and coloring books, books, and crafts galore, the boys will not be bored.  And last I heard we plan on holding church Sunday. 🙂

The biggest thing I’m working on is making sure my house is as clean as possible and the trash is out so that we don’t turn REALLY nasty while the power’s out and the AC is off. I need to pull in the stuff on our back patio, but our big heavy table is already inside. I might tape the windows just to minimize the mess if our windows are hit with debris. We’ll stack the boys box springs up against the worst windows if it gets that bad, since we don’t really have any “inside rooms” other than the hall.

So far not a drop of rain. This morning I got some of the beginning of the cell clouds which I’ll post on my blog as soon as I process them. Now that the sun is up the clouds are a bit more detailed, so I guess I’m due for shooting some more as soon as I get a few more minutes to myself.

Oh, and did I mention I got Breaking Dawn for $13!!!? So if all else fails, I’ve got good entertainment, LOL!

That reminds me I need to make sure all the iPod’s are charged. Cells are though. 😉  Though I should warn that we may be out of service as they get things up and going, so if I stop answering either of my phones, don’t assume the worst.

Here’s where you can go for all the up to date info on what’s going on here.

BTW, any local families that find themselves in need are welcome to come and join us!  We have plenty of food and stuff.  (((HUGS)))

I think that’s all up to date now, I’ll post again later today after the storm starts if I can.
